What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle energy healing modality. The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words, “Rei” which translates to spirit and “Ki” which is life force energy. Combining both words together, “Rei” and “Ki” means spiritually guided life force energy.
Life force energy is based on the concept that there is an omnipresent energy that exists in every living being throughout the universe. It reinforces the idea that we are all made of energy and depend on a regular supply of it to stay alive.
If our life force energy becomes low, we can experience pain, illness and stress. For us to have happier and healthier lives, all we need to do is raise our energy levels from low to high. This is where Reiki can help.
Reiki is administered by placing hands lightly on different parts of the body. When Reiki is applied on the body, energy is passed from the practitioner to the recipient because the practitioner acts as a conduit to Reiki.
The infinite wisdom of Reiki directs the energy to flow where it is needed and will decide the level of energy to be received.
There are three main practical ways you can experience and benefit from Reiki in your life, as outlined below.
- Attend treatments
Attend treatments with a qualified professional. A treatment session can last from forty-five minutes to an hour and a half, depending on your needs.
- Perform self healing treatments
Perform self healing treatments after completing the Reiki Level 1 course. Begin with a twenty minute treatment first thing every morning before you start your day.
- Say the five principles
Say the five principles of Reiki as a morning intention or whenever you need them throughout the day. The five principles are spiritual guidelines and are as follows:
- Just for today, I will not worry.
- Just for today, I will not be angry.
- Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
- Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.
- Just for today, I will be kind to all living things
Reiki always works for your highest good and treats the whole person including body, mind, emotions and spirit.
There are many health problems Reiki can be used to treat such as physical and mental stress, anxiety, insomnia, infertility, cancer, fatigue and chronic pain.
Reiki is generally considered a risk free energy healing practice. Some recipients can experience a short term upset stomach, light headedness and fatigue following treatment.
To summarise, Reiki is an energy healing modality that can be easily incorporated in your life in many ways. With the numerous benefits it can offer, why not try Reiki for yourself and start living a happier and fuller life.
